In “One. The Financial Revolt” Lewis focuses on one
particular story, the story of Jonathan Lebed.
This example provides the foundation for the rest of the story that
Lewis shares with us. This story gives
the first example of how the Internet was changing society. Lebed was able to use the Internet to his
advantage, and in the end was able to profit from using it to his advantage in
the stock market.

However, Lewis’s decision to use this story in his book was
not just to show how the Internet could benefit one individual. Lewis is trying to show how it impacts society.
Lewis chose this example because it demonstrates his theme, that the
Internet is providing new sources of information.
Lebed was merely a teenager when he was making hundreds of
thousands of dollars from his participation in the stock market. This changed his whole life. His entire town was asking for his recommendations
on what stock to buy and when to sell.
However, this isn’t about him.
This is about how he just made the Internet’s loophole visible. Lebed showed us that it doesn’t take a high
level of schooling and a full-time job to be the only expert out there. Now with a computer and an Internet
connection, people can become experts on any given topic.
